Kids can be very fearful of the unknown, especially when it comes to the dentist. At Essence Dental, we do our best to ensure our youngest patients are comfortable, happy and excited about their oral health care. Whether it’s allowing children to take a fun ride in the dental chair or showing them the tools we use and answering a million questions, we do everything we can to make your children feel relaxed and realize that there is really nothing to be afraid of.
Does your child need a little help to get through their appointments? No problem! We are happy to provide patients in Aurora with nitrous oxide (laughing gas) treatment to help patients relax and ensure their comfort throughout their appointment.
When Should You Take Your Children to the Dentist?
Excellent oral health starts at a very young age and right at home! Infants developing their first teeth can benefit greatly from mom or dad gently cleaning their new tiny teeth with a soft washcloth-covered finger.
As children grow, along with brushing for two minutes twice a day and flossing at home, professional oral health care begins to play an important role in maintaining healthy teeth and gums. Kids as young as two can benefit from a visit to our dental office once every six months to ensure proper brushing, flossing and rinsing techniques are being used, and areas of concern are monitored closely to prevent the growth of cavities and decay that can lead to ongoing issues with your child’s oral health.
Children start to lose their first set of teeth around age six. This is right around the same time that many children develop their independent oral health skills and proper oral habits and when children’s teeth and jaws begin to develop into their adult forms. Proper teeth cleaning and maintenance, including regular visits to our office for deep cleaning and checks with the dentist for decay and orthodontic assessment, are important to ensure your child’s permanent teeth grow in healthy and their jaws develop normally. Remember, early introduction to proper oral health regimes will help children develop life-long oral health skills.
